Notable August 12th In History –

1877 – Edison develops the phonograph.

Thomas Edison described the fundamentals of the phonograph to an assistant and instructed him to construct one. Edison had discovered the principles behind the phonograph while

trying to invent a telegraph repeater. In the process, he developed a cylinder covered with foil that made sounds when played by a needle.

Rotary Last Week, August 5^th

“Was this meeting just a dream?

Or were we at the West Point Museum,

Where Mike Moss opened his side door

And took us on a history tour.

Antique weapons in mirror lined cases

And battle flags showed their traces,

While tales of heroes from the past

Made for a meeting that in memory will Last.
