On this date in 1900 the solid silver trophy known today as “The Davis Cup”, is first put up for competition when American Collegian Dwight Filley Davis challenges British

tennis players to come across the Atlantic & compete against his Harvard team.

 

Rotary Last Week

Doug McBride, President of Orange County Land Trust, gave an interesting recitation on preserving land, such as fields, wetlands, forests, ridgelines, etc. in Orange County, through voluntary conservation. He distributed his organization’s newsletter, ‘Open Space News”, which greatly reinforced his presentation. As the saying goes: “One picture is worth 1000 words.”

New Member Pinning – Jason Lynch, our latest member, was ‘pinned’ by “Woody” Held. Congratulations, Jason!

Phil Brillante – Phil gave safety tips on staying safe when using the ski slope; look uphill; stop safely; runaway equipt. & use of helmets were among his recommendations!

Theatre Party:  Remember, it’s Thoroughly Modern Millie” on Sunday, May 7th 2006 in Eisenhower Hall”. Show at   3 pm; dinner will follow at 5pm.  Tell your friends! This is the Club’s major fund-raiser!

The Holy Innocents Church thrift shop     will be operating every Thurs. 10 am to 1 pm.

The Holy Innocents food pantry, 2nd & 4th Wednesday of month.

Sacred Heart Thrift Shop open 10am – 2pm; (4:30 Thursdays.)
