Notable July 29 In History!                

1588 – Spanish Armada defeated.

Off the coast of Gravelines, France, Spain’s so called “Invincible Armada” is defeated by an English Naval Force under command of Lord Howard and Sir Francis Drake after 8 hours of furious fighting. A change in wind direction caused the Spanish to break off and retreat toward the North Sea. Its hope for invasion crushed, the remnants of the Armada began a long,

difficult journey home. 

 

Rotary Last Week, July 22                   

Jeff Rohrlick, Center for teaching excellence, gave an excellent presentation on technology, especially in the computer field. He described the latest innovations being presented to the Cadets from the M-60 Laptop to the Dell printer. (This has wireless connectivity). The senior Cadets are issued the PDA (Personal Data Assistant) thereby eliminating the need to carry a laptop. He also outlined some future equipment to be used, such as a “tablet” p.c.

 

Sad Note - President Roy informed the membership of the passing of Rotarian Pat Flynn’s father, and of Harold Spaeth’s brother. (They have our prayers and sympathy.)

      

Board meeting Literary Month. (Thought - Joining with District for the meeting?)

 

Farrell Patrick reminded everyone of the “Open House” today, July 29th in Ike Hall.  –  All welcome! (Volunteers needed for the food table.)

 

Boat Ride Gus Fishburne reminded all that the date and time of the annual boat ride is 6 p.m. Aug 29 at $20.00 per. (The week before Labor Day). Excellent menu! Get payments in by

Aug. 21.

                                                   

Ben Birillo has designed and donated a patriotic “Statue Of Liberty” scarf to the club. See Gerry Sheehan if you’re interested in obtaining one.  (Proceeds to the club.)

  

Gerry Sheehan also has both gray and  white male and female shirts. Will have them at the August 5th meeting at the museum.

                                         

Phil Brillante gave a heads up on his fishing trip in September. More on this will be forthcoming.
